And a Silver Sixpence In Your Shoe

Everyone has heard of "something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue" (except James, who I guess had not heard of this until I mentioned it) which pertains to four separate items worn by the bride to ensure good luck on their wedding day.

Something old represents continuity with the bride's family and the past, something new is optimism for her life ahead, something borrowed is from a happily married friend or family member (whose good fortune carries over), and something blue--a color associated with weddings for centuries (love, modesty, purity, fidelity).

I've got my something blue, and I'm pretty sure my dress and shoes fulfill something(s) new, but what about the rest?  Does anyone have any ideas? I've seen the blue garters, and I've seen the new blue stitching fad, but I'm curious as to what other people have done.

And, does anyone still keep up with the last line of the proverb, a silver sixpence in your shoe?

Take Me Out to a Ballgame

Last night was James' company baseball game, which usually ends up being and Angels-A's showdown where the A's always lose.  It's sad because James is actually an A's fan, but I don't really care one way or another because the Padres are, and always will be, my #1 team (no matter how badly they are doing, and that say's something about my fanship).

Baseball is my favorite sport to watch, and sadly I no longer have cable TV so I never get to watch it.  In fact, I don't think I've had Padres on TV for 4 years now.. the joys of being poor and not having TV :] I attend more games in person than I watch on TV and that is always fun.  There's something about a baseball stadium that makes you just feel so small, it makes all of your problems seem smaller as well...

Last year James and I went to the game, and I decked out in full A's attire (I was trying to impress and maintain my new boyfriend). But this year I felt comfortable enough to switch attire and allegiances, mainly to avoid all of the heckling.

I am so happy Baseball is back!  I can't wait to get down to see some Padres games, no matter how grim their chances of a W are looking...

So this past monday was our 4 months-to-go point and we are seriously wondering if this day will ever come, based on the glacial pace it has seemingly chosen thus far!  Everything is ready to go, from the venues to the photographer and now we get to worry over the tiny little details.  Something that has been frustrating to me, however, is that so many people are not getting our save-the-dates in the mail! I have heard from at least half of the people we sent them to that they did not receive it, which really makes me wonder.  We had a few return to us but after checking with those people, there wasn't anything even wrong with the addresses.  I don't know how to solve this problem, so we very well might end up hand-delivering invites when that time comes.  I guess that would be a lot cheaper too.. hmm...

This past weekend we picked out our wedding bands, which was exciting for me.  I was totally fine getting a plain silver band but James and the jeweler-lady strongly encouraged me to get one that matches my ring....so I guess there'll be even more sparkling going on in the future, goodness!  This weekend was a lot of fun because not only did we get our bands picked out but we took advantage of being in LA by eating (more like gorging ourselves) at Philipe's and consuming four french dip sandwiches, but OH they are so good!  Then we stopped by Harmony Estes' homecoming party where we got to see a lot of friends and family (practically) before heading over to Nick Roberts' going away party where I got to meet a lot of James' other friends from when he was younger.  We were so exhausted afterwards I think we were both passed out in the middle of our movie by around 8pm.

We had a somewhat ho-hum Easter this year, what with schedules being mismatched and my being inundated with much schoolwork.  After church and lunch with Deb & Travis we read/homeworked/napped/sunbathed until dinner time at his Uncle's house, and then returned to do more of the same before calling it a night.  We definitely spent time in the Word, and my prayer is that people wouldn't get so caught up in solely the fact that Christ rose from the dead, but that they might see the fulfillment of God's word in that act, and that it might cause them to look at the life of Christ through God's Word, and see how many more wonderful things he also fulfilled.

"For what I received I passed on to you as of first importance: that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day according to scriptures, and that he appeared to Peter, and then to the twelve."

Happy Thursday..... almost the weekend!!!

And Last, But Not Least...

We also created a wedding website on The Knot,
so you can check that out here.
It's a great resource for people who want to know more about anything and everything wedding-related, but I guess it ultimately just leads you right back here to my blog :]

Golden.

Two weeks ago my best friend Deb helped us with our save-the-date photos and, though I might be a little biased, I think they turned out GREAT!  We had a lot of fun (which might be saying something, for James) and it was just such a blessing that Deb was able to do this for us last minute so that we could give everyone those precious postcards...

Here are a few of our favorites:
